Our Mission
For several years the Democratic Republic of the Congo (the "DRC") has been enduring one of the most under-reported crises in the world.
Years of brutal civil war and natural disasters, coupled with irresponsibility and neglect, have contributed to the complete collapse of the
education system and the health care system. This has resulted in the total breakdown of the social fabric. Although the nation is
extremely rich in natural resources, many of its 50 million inhabitants are stripped of their coping mechanism by a lack of adequate
education and health care and thus cannot harvest their nation's natural wealth and improve their quality of life. Schools are non-existent,
broken down, undersupplied, under-equipped or under-staffed. Hospitals are also either non-existent in many communities, or they are
forced to care for large numbers of people with meager resources, desolate equipment and few medical supplies
The suffering is at times unimaginable: outbreaks of cholera and malaria are commonplace, and families must battle meningitis, sleeping
sickness, and HIV/AIDs in the face of malnutrition. One in four children die before the age of five, and those that remain have to struggle
to get an education that could allow them to pull themselves out of the vicious cycle. The needs are overwhelming. The resources are
scarce, but the time to help is now.
It is in response to this crisis that RTST Foundation, Inc. (hereinafter "RTST"), a Congolese-American organization, has been started to
respond in a meaningful way to the cry for help. The founders of RTST, who have families in the DRC as well as the United States,
believe that they can all make a difference even if by touching one person at a time.
